How CCD is empowering small farmers through collectives and creating market ready products with Farmveda
What is CCD?
Centre for Collective Development (CCD) is a not-for-profit organization founded in 2003 by Prof. Trilochan Sastry (IIM Bangalore), with a vision to bring the power of cooperation to small and marginal farmers across India.
CCD works to organize farmers into cooperatives and Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), enabling them to collectively process, market, and sell their produce—thus helping them move up the value chain and earn a better livelihood.
How CCD Builds Cooperatives
Most small farmers lack access to fair markets, modern infrastructure, and processing facilities.
CCD addresses this by:
● Forming democratically run cooperatives where farmers own, manage, and lead operations
● Providing training, governance, and technical support to make these cooperatives self-sustaining
● Setting up shared processing units for value addition like milling, oil pressing, and food packaging
● Enabling market access through partnerships and technology
Today, over 47,000 farmers are part of CCD-supported cooperatives across India.
Where Farmveda Comes In
While CCD builds the backend ecosystem, Farmveda acts as the farmer-owned brand that connects these cooperatives directly to the market.
● Farmers produce raw ingredients →
● Cooperatives process them into ready-to-sell products →
● Farmveda packages and retails them under a single trusted brand
Profits from Farmveda go back to the very farmers who produce and process these goods—closing the loop and creating an end-to-end sustainable model.
