India’s water crisis is worsening  and rural farmers are among the most affected. At CCD, we believe in community-driven water conservation models that are cost-effective, scalable, and rooted in traditional knowledge. One of our most successful initiatives is desilting rural waterbodies to improve water availability and agricultural productivity.

What is Desilting and Why It Matters: Desilting is the process of removing accumulated silt from tanks, ponds, lakes, and reservoirs. This simple but powerful intervention restores the natural storage capacity of waterbodies and rejuvenates soil fertility.

Impact of CCD’s Water Conservation Work:

  • Over 8 million cubic meters of silt removed from waterbodies
  • Creation of more than 8 billion litres of additional water storage
  • Rejuvenation of over 19,000 acres of farmland with fertile silt application
  • Engagement of 138 gram panchayats across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana
  • More than 16 lakh people impacted, including 8+ lakh women beneficiaries

CCD’s desilting initiative is a replicable model for sustainable water resource management. By involving local farmers, especially women, in the planning and implementation, we ensure long-term ownership and ecological balance.

If you’re exploring water conservation projects in India, CCD’s grassroots efforts offer valuable lessons for impact-driven environmental change.
